Studio Jo Cowen are pleased to have completed this complete rebuild with façade retention and new basement excavation to a mid-terrace period property in Parsons Green.
The project included a full basement excavation and ground, first and second floor extensions to the rear, doubling the overall square footage of the original house. The basement level houses a media room, a temperature-controlled wine room, internal study, guest washroom, TV room with custom joinery and a utility space.
The ground floor utilises open plan living front to back to maximise the narrow footprint of the house. Removing walls on this floor allowed for a bright, light, and spacious area to accommodate the kitchen, dining and living areas, which all flow seamlessly to the back garden. The upper floors include four well-appointed double bedrooms and three bathrooms.
The material palette for this house is bold, refined and sophisticated. Dark timber veneer with subtle fabric inlays is utilised throughout the property. The kitchen is finished in crown cut veneer showcasing the fine grain of the natural timber. The kitchen backsplash is finished with an antique mirror which helps to complement the kitchen cabinets. Window architraves are painted a deep grey which contrast the chocolatey tone of the veneer.
One of the most successful features of this property is the side return of the rear extension. The addition of a full height green wall adds a sophisticated visual point of interest that connects the basement and ground floor spaces.
