Studio Jo Cowen were approached to entirely re-build this Victorian terraced house, adding a full basement, rear and side extensions, a new second floor and full internal re-modelling to best utilise the layouts and make the house adaptable to the modern family.
The brief was to create a striking and highly usable space for a French family with four children. The house is comprised of a drawing room, media room, fully bespoke kitchen, dining space, bespoke garden, wine cellar, study and five double bedrooms and bathrooms. A combination of timber framed glass partitions was used to demarcate spaces without losing any light.
The house benefits from two separate staircases. The primary stair utilises a new fully turned solid oak handrail from ground floor to second floor with steel spindles and an oak finished stair. The stair connecting the kitchen and family room below sits beneath a fully glazed side extension bringing light down to the glazed and bronze stair to the heart of the basement. The study is cleverly wrapped around the staircase, utilising the under stair storage and doubling up as library shelving. The master bathroom is entirely finished in a light grey tone polished plaster with Calcutta bespoke stone sink and ‘Moon rock’ work surfaces.
The overall palette of this house is bright and light with distinguished and sophisticated features.
