Barnard House

Scope: Planning, Design, Construction

Location: Fulham, London

Type: Private Home

Duration: 12 Months

Status: Completed 2017

Studio Jo Cowen are proud to have completed this project which included major works involving the excavation of a 900 square foot basement under the footprint of the existing house that was fully connected to the ground floor.

One of the key features of this property is the basement stair that provides a focal point through the heart of the house. This allows light to penetrate the front and back of the basement and utilises the full width of the property, with no space compromised. This feature also allowed for an integrated study to slot into the underside of the staircase, finished with Crittall style glazing and fully bespoke joinery, which resulted in a bright functional room and a beautiful unique feature for the house.

Herringbone flooring is used throughout the property in a warm, natural oak finish with matt varnish. The same oak flooring is used throughout the main staircase and is complemented with the solid oak handrail.

The kitchen is fitted with fully bespoke cabinetry and the soft grey tone complements the finishes of the floor and adds a contemporary feel to the project.
