Studio Jo Cowen were appointed to work on the full refurbishment of a period terraced house in Fulham’s Peterborough Estate. The project scope included remodelling of all interior spaces, substantially lowering and extending the existing basement, extensions to the side and rear, a pod extension and the remodelling of the rear facade and roof.
Our client’s aspirations were to accentuate the Victorian features whilst adding elements of contemporary design. The glazed metal partition towards the reception room allows for natural light to flood into the hallway, giving a modern touch to a previously dark area.
The modern design of the kitchen which runs along both lengths of the house has been accentuated by a fully glazed rear facade which creates a natural flow between the indoor and the outdoor spaces.
A new bespoke steel and timber staircase from the basement to the top floor ties the whole house together. Light was maximised inside the property where possible including the addition of a large roof light covering the entire stair to bring natural light down through the house.
The palette throughout is neutral so as to accentuate the client’s playful and eclectic art collection.
