Studio Jo Cowen has recently completed the extension and refurbishment of this semi-detached property in the Brook Green Conservation area. Designed to create a harmonious blend of modern sustainability and natural aesthetics this family home is centred around the integration of an Air Source Heat Pump, which significantly reduces the building’s carbon footprint while providing energy-efficient heating and cooling.

The property features a new, sculptural staircase that serves as both a functional element and a striking visual centrepiece seen immediately upon entering the house. The staircase, crafted from timber and steel, adds a dynamic focal point to the interior and enhances the spatial flow of the home. Double-height glazing floods the interior with natural light and connects the inhabitants with a beautifully curated garden, creating a sense of openness and transparency. The rich materiality of charred timber cladding is mimicked throughout the house, from the kitchen wall panelling, through the extension and out to the garden.
