Studio Jo Cowen have recently completed this full re-build of a terraced townhouse in the Moore Park conservation area, including a new basement, extended outrigger, and a new mansard storey to the property.

Our client wished for open plan living, kitchen and dining spaces across the split-level ground floorplate, with a fully landscaped garden beyond (including a sunken spa pool). The relatively enclosed nature of the rear of the site meant daylight enhancement to internal spaces was key, to which we responded with a two-storey high window (adjacent to the new stair leading to the basement) which wraps over and deep into the ground floorplan. New intricately detailed oriel protruding windows were designed to the first-floor study room and second floor ensuite, along with a new roof terrace at third floor.

The new basement is home to an entertainment space, utility room, steam room and gym.

With extensions permitted and built across every floor, our client has maximised the potential and footprint of the property. The original split-level stair to the upper floors reduced the ability to maximise the usable area of each floor plate. We overcame this by rebuilding each floor on a single level, connected via a new striking staircase.

The pallet of finishes throughout the property is succinct and bespoke to our clients’ aspirations, testament to our client led approach on projects.
