The renovation of this four-storey house in Chelsea involved an intricate series of side, rear and roof level extensions, and a full subterranean excavation. The scheme conserves significant features of the original front elevation and celebrates certain original architectural elements and detailing.
The proposal intended to improve the layout of the interior to make this a functional family home of the highest quality, with additional living space at basement and second floor levels.
The scheme consisted of works to the rear garden, alterations to the rear elevation with floor height increases, a new secluded roof terrace and side infill extension, a full footprint basement excavation with impressive lightwells and a range of interior adjustments. One of the most successful elements is the striking staircase which connects the entire house. This sits proudly within the space and creates an impressive focal point through the entire property.
The interior is finished with a palette of subtle oak parquet flooring and soft wall tones. The kitchen and dining area is fitted with shaker style cabinetry, creating an elegant, but practical kitchen for the requirements of a modern family.
