Bramble House

Scope: Planning, Design, Construction
Location: Chelsea, London
Type: Private Home
Duration: 15 months
Status: Completed 2025

This house amongst the distinctly Edwardian streets north of the King’s Road in Chelsea has been thoroughly reconfigured across its floor plans and with a strong stylistic hand to become an elegant and comfortable home where the formality of axial plans and carefully-scaled interpretations of period details combines with an exciting and much less formal palette of positive finishes: rich colours very much in their own right complement the golden tones of the oak flooring and the treads and continuous handrail of the new stair.

A glazed joinery extension at ground floor, modest in scale but rich in detail, was the key that unlocked the floor plan to allow a kitchen, dining room and snug to run along the back of the house in a single space. This sets up a connection between inside and outside echoed in the principal bedroom and bathroom on the first floor so the main spaces in the house benefit from immersion in the calm and lush new back garden and the inner world of the backs of the neighbouring houses.

In the basement, alongside functional boot-room and utility spaces in a stripped-back echo of the principal floors, Lutyens-inspired oak panels to wine store and wet bar create a kind of a club-house at one end of a match-boarded Recreation Room- the other end forming an informal and very comfortable TV-watching spot.

This project also features state-of-the-art controls for curtains and blinds, lighting and audio, heating and cooling all subtly and seamlessly integrated within a boldly finishes-first environment.

This is a house which might have always looked, felt and worked like this!
